Manindra Agrawal is a distinguished Indian mathematician best known for co-developing the groundbreaking AKS primality test, a landmark discovery in number theory and computer science. Born in 1966, he serves as a professor at the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. In 2002, along with his students, he introduced the first deterministic polynomial-time algorithm to test whether a number is prime—an achievement that brought global recognition to Indian mathematics. For this extraordinary contribution, he was honored with the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize, one of India’s highest scientific accolades.
Beyond his research accomplishments, Manindra Agrawal represents intellectual courage, innovation and dedication to knowledge.
