K. Radhakrishnan is a distinguished Indian space scientist best known for his leadership as Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) from 2009 to 2014. Born on 18 August 1949 in Kerala, he played a pivotal role in strengthening India’s space capabilities, most notably by steering the successful Mars Orbiter Mission (Mangalyaan) in 2013, which placed India among an elite group of spacefaring nations. With a strong academic foundation in engineering and decades of service at ISRO, he became known for his calm leadership, technical clarity, and unwavering commitment to scientific excellence.
