Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi flagged off the country's first double-decker superfast train from Howrah in West Bengal to Dhanbad in Jharkhand. The country’s first double decker train is fully air-conditioned and will run five days a week.
The maximum permissible speed of the train is 110 kmph. The distance between Howrah & Dhanbad is approx. 270 km .
The train, comprises of 9 coaches, including 7 air-conditioned double-decker chair cars and will have 128 seats in each coach & two generator cars.
It will start from Dhanbad at 5.00 AM every Monday, Tues, Wednesday, Friday & Saturday and will arrive at Howrah 4 hours later at 9.15 AM.
From Howrah, it will start at 3.20 PM every Sunday, Monday, Tues, Thurs & Friday and will reach Dhanbad at 7.40 PM.
"It has much more comfort level than other trains. It is India's first double-decker train," said a senior Eastern Railway official.
