Annapurna Maharana

UNSUNG HEROES

Annapurna Maharana was a courageous freedom fighter and social activist from Odisha, deeply involved in the Indian independence movement. She participated in significant campaigns such as Gandhiji’s Harijan Pada Yatra, which aimed to eradicate untouchability and uplift marginalized communities. Her activism was marked by unwavering commitment to social justice and equality.

Post-independence, Annapurna dedicated herself to promoting education for tribal children and working with movements like Bhoodan, which sought equitable land distribution and rural development. Her lifelong service focused on empowering marginalized sections, especially in Odisha’s tribal and rural areas.
