Boota Singh

UNSUNG HEROES

Boota Singh was a Sikh soldier who became a symbol of the human tragedy during the Partition of India in 1947. After the violence and upheaval that divided Punjab, Boota Singh rescued a young Muslim girl who had been abandoned during the communal riots. He married her and lived with her in Punjab, defying the immense social and political pressures of the time.

However, their love story ended in heartbreak. Due to the political circumstances, his wife was forcibly taken back to Pakistan. Boota Singh tried to reunite with her but faced insurmountable obstacles. In despair, he ended his own life.
