Bulu Imam

UNSUNG HEROES

Bulu Imam is a renowned environmentalist, tribal rights activist, and cultural historian from Hazaribagh, Jharkhand. Since the late 1980s, he has dedicated his life to preserving the rich tribal heritage, art, and natural environment of the region. Bulu Imam is best known for rediscovering ancient rock art sites in the North Karanpura Valley, which are among the oldest in India. He has also played a key role in reviving traditional tribal art forms such as Sohrai and Khovar painting, helping tribal artists gain recognition and sustain their livelihoods.

In addition to his work in cultural preservation, Bulu Imam founded the Sanskriti Museum & Art Gallery, which showcases tribal art and promotes awareness about tribal history and environmental conservation. His tireless efforts to protect both tribal culture and the forests have earned him prestigious awards like the Gandhi International Peace Award (2011) and the Padma Shri (2019).
