Dadasaheb Phalke

         Maharashtra’s Hall Of Fame

Father of Indian Cinema | Filmmaking Pioneer | Visionary Artist
Dhundiraj Govind Phalke, popularly known as Dadasaheb Phalke, was a trailblazer from Maharashtra who laid the foundation for Indian cinema. Born in 1870 in Tryambakeshwar, he was a multi-talented artist—an engineer, painter, and writer—who combined his skills to create India’s first full-length feature film. In 1913, Phalke directed Raja Harishchandra, a silent film that is considered the birth of Indian cinema. Despite numerous challenges, including lack of resources and technical expertise, he successfully produced, directed, and managed the entire filmmaking process.
