Dr. Manmohan Singh

Delhi’s Hall Of Fame

Dr. Manmohan Singh is a distinguished economist and statesman who served as the Prime Minister of India from 2004 to 2014. Born on September 26, 1932, in Gah (now in Pakistan), he pursued higher education at Panjab University, Cambridge University, and Oxford University, earning a doctorate in economics. Known for his scholarly brilliance and humility, Dr. Singh held several key positions, including Governor of the Reserve Bank of India and Finance Minister. As Finance Minister in 1991, he introduced historic economic reforms that liberalized India’s economy, ending decades of socialist restrictions.

During his tenure as Prime Minister, Dr. Singh oversaw a period of high economic growth, technological advancement, and global integration. His government implemented major policies like the Right to Information Act, National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA), and the India-U.S. Nuclear Deal. Despite facing political challenges, he remained respected for his integrity, intellect, and vision for a modern, inclusive India. Often described as the “architect of India’s economic reforms,” Dr. Manmohan Singh’s leadership left a lasting impact on the nation’s economic and democratic fabric.
