A traditional Dhak (percussion) player, a dhaki (traditional drum) artist from North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, Dey broke gender barriers by training 150 women to play this instrument traditionally dominated by men. He also designed a lighter version, cutting its weight by 1.5 kg, to make it more accessible. His efforts were recognized with a Padma Shri, underlining his impact in cultural revival and inclusivity.
