Lalthangfala Sailo

UNSUNG HEROES

Lalthangfala Sailo (1933-2025) was a distinguished Mizo educationist, writer, playwright, and social worker from Mizoram, India. Born on July 16, 1933, in West Lungdar, Mizoram, he pursued higher education in literature, earning his Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Xavier's College, Calcutta, and his Master's degree in Mizo literature from Gauhati University.

Sailo was a prolific writer, having authored over 50 short stories and 10 plays, including notable works such as Sangi Inleng (1959), Liandova te Unau (1969), Kalkhama leh Lianphunga (1999), and Sual Man Thihna (1999). His contributions to literature earned him several prestigious awards, including the Padma Shri in 2009 for his exceptional work in education and literature. He also received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2007 for playwriting, the Bharat Adivasi Drama Award in 2012, and the Pu Buanga Award in 2015.
