Lourembam Deben Singh, Musical Bridge Builder is a renowned Manipuri classical and folk singer whose artistry has also left a deep mark in Tripura’s cultural landscape. Born in 1946 in Imphal, Manipur, he became celebrated for his soulful renditions of traditional Manipuri music, which resonated strongly among Manipuri and other communities living in Tripura. Through his performances, he acted as a bridge between cultures, strengthening the bonds of harmony and shared heritage in the Northeast. His mastery of Manipuri folk traditions, combined with a modern sensibility, brought recognition not only to Manipur but also to Tripura, where these cultural forms flourished. Honored with the Padma Shri in 2010, Lourembam Deben Singh continues to be remembered as an unsung champion of cultural unity, whose music preserved tradition while fostering inclusivity across communities in Tripura.
