P.K. Shifana

YOUTH SPOTLIGHT

P.K. Shifana is a history undergraduate and student activist from Kondotty, Malappuram district, Kerala. Born in 2005, she rose to national prominence in 2025 when she became the first woman Chairperson of the Calicut University Students’ Union from the Muslim Students Federation (MSF), a significant milestone in the state’s student political landscape. Her victory was symbolic and historic, representing both gender empowerment and increased political representation of minority communities in university spaces. Before this, Shifana had been actively involved in Haritha, the women’s wing of the MSF, advocating for gender justice within and outside the organization. Shifana also made headlines in 2021 when she and other Haritha leaders approached the Kerala Women’s Commission, challenging internal suppression and advocating for autonomy and dignity in student politics. Her actions sparked a wider conversation on female leadership in Kerala’s political and academic spaces.
