Parbati Giri was a pioneering freedom fighter and social reformer from Sambalpur, Odisha. From a young age, she was deeply involved in India’s struggle for independence, joining the movement as a teenager. Known for her compassion and dedication, she earned the affectionate title “Mother Teresa of Western Odisha” for her lifelong commitment to social welfare.
After independence, Parbati devoted herself to running orphanages, promoting education, and uplifting marginalized communities in Odisha. She worked tirelessly to improve the lives of women and children, focusing on health, literacy, and self-reliance. Her efforts laid a strong foundation for social development in some of the most underprivileged regions of Odisha.
