Pramila Bisoyi

UNSUNG HEROES

Pramila Bisoyi is a prominent Indian politician from Odisha, celebrated for her grassroots activism and role in empowering rural women. Born on September 15, 1948, in Kornoli village, Ganjam district, she was married at the age of five, and her formal education ended after class three. Despite these early challenges, Bisoyi became a pivotal figure in the Mission Shakti movement, which promotes women's self-help groups (SHGs) in Odisha. Her leadership in this movement led to her election as the Member of Parliament for the Aska constituency in 2019, where she served until 2024.
