Radha Arya

UNSUNG HEROES

Radha Arya from Uttarakhand came into the public eye due to a high-profile legal case in which she was accused of setting her husband, Ram Lal Arya, on fire, leading to his death. She was initially convicted by the Dehradun Sessions Court under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (murder) and sentenced to life imprisonment. However, after years of trial and appeal, the Uttarakhand High Court, in March 2024, set aside her conviction and acquitted her of all charges, citing lack of conclusive evidence. Her case drew attention as an example of how prolonged trials and appeals unfold in the Indian judicial system.
