Ramdhari Singh Dinkar

 Bihar’s Hall Of Fame

Ramdhari Singh Dinkar was one of the most celebrated Hindi poets of the 20th century, known for his powerful and patriotic poetry that stirred national pride and awakened social consciousness. Born on September 23, 1908, in Simariya village, Begusarai district, Bihar, Dinkar emerged from a modest background to become a towering literary figure. He was deeply influenced by the Indian freedom movement, Mahatma Gandhi, and the ideals of nationalism, which became central themes in his writings. Dinkar's poetry is marked by its fiery expression, historical themes, and deep emotion, earning him the title "Rashtrakavi" (National Poet). His most famous works include “Rashmirathi”, an epic poem centered around Karna, the unsung hero of the Mahabharata, and “Parshuram ki Pratiksha”, which reflect both heroic valor and philosophical depth. In addition to being a poet, Dinkar was also a scholar, historian, and parliamentarian. He served as a Member of Rajya Sabha and was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award, Padma Bhushan (1959), and posthumously, the Jnanpith Award in 1972. His legacy continues to inspire young poets and patriots, and he remains a symbol of literary excellence and national pride in India, especially in Bihar.
