Ridhima Pandey

YOUTH SPOTLIGHT

Ridhima Pandey, born in 2007 in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, is one of India’s youngest and most influential climate activists. She first gained national and international attention at the age of 9 when she filed a petition with India’s National Green Tribunal, accusing the government of failing to take adequate steps to combat climate change as per the Paris Agreement. Her bold step made her a symbol of youth-led environmental activism in India. In 2019, Ridhima joined 15 other child activists, including Greta Thunberg, in filing a formal complaint with the United Nations against five major polluting nations, demanding urgent action on climate change. She has since spoken at several international platforms, including the UN Climate Action Summit, and featured in the documentary The Letter, where she met Pope Francis. Named in BBC’s 100 Women list in 2020 and awarded the Mother Teresa Memorial Award for Social Justice, Ridhima continues to advocate for stronger environmental policies, proving that young voices can lead powerful movements for change.
