Satyendra Nath Bose

West Bengal’s Hall Of Fame

Satyendra Nath Bose (1894–1974) was a brilliant Indian physicist and mathematician from West Bengal, best known for his collaboration with Albert Einstein in developing the foundation of quantum statistics, now known as Bose-Einstein statistics. Born in Kolkata, Bose was an exceptional student and studied at Presidency College and the University of Calcutta, where he later became a professor.

In 1924, he sent a paper on the quantum behavior of particles to Albert Einstein, who immediately recognized its significance and translated it into German for publication. This collaboration led to the theoretical discovery of a new class of particles—bosons, named after Bose. In India, he was honored with the Padma Vibhushan and held prominent academic positions.
