Ustad Ali Akbar Khan

West Bengal’s Hall Of Fame

Ustad Ali Akbar Khan (1922–2009) was one of the greatest sarod maestros in the history of Indian classical music. Born in Comilla (now in Bangladesh), he was the son of the legendary musician and teacher Ustad Allauddin Khan, founder of the Maihar Gharana, one of the most respected schools of Indian classical music. Trained rigorously under his father, Ali Akbar Khan became a master of the sarod—a complex, 25-stringed instrument known for its deep, resonant sound.
