The Gauchar Mela, held every year from 14th to 20th November in Gauchar, Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, is one of the state’s most prominent trade and cultural fairs. Originally started in 1943 as a trade exchange platform, the fair has now evolved into a blend of daytime exhibitions, sports competitions, and evening-to-night cultural programs. During the fair, thousands of visitors gather to witness folk music, traditional Garhwali and Kumaoni dances, plays, and performances by school and state-level artists that often continue late into the night. On average, the mela draws over 50,000 attendees annually, making it a major cultural and social highlight of Uttarakhand.
