The largest participation in a traditional instrument ensemble in Mizoram was recorded during the Chapchar Kut celebrations in Aizawl in March 2017, when over 600 musicians came together to perform on indigenous instruments such as the khuang (drum), bawngbung (gong), bamboo flutes, and percussion sets. Arranged as part of the grand cultural parade and stage programs at the Assam Rifles Ground, the synchronized performance created a powerful soundscape that echoed across the city, witnessed by more than 10,000 spectators. This ensemble not only showcased the depth of Mizoram’s instrumental heritage but also set a benchmark for the largest coordinated performance of traditional instruments in the state’s cultural history.
