The RAFTA (Rise Against Fanaticism Through the Arts) Scriptwriting Competition, initiated by Sohaya Visions and Mukul & Ghetto Tigers, is a global theatre script contest founded in 2021. Through RAFTA, writers from across India including Kolkata’s vibrant theatre community are invited to submit original, one-hour stage scripts of 25–35 pages, addressing themes like extremism, intolerance, and xenophobia. Winners receive a ₤500 prize and a commitment to stage their work, while up to five other shortlisted entries earn rehearsed readings. RAFTA emphasizes creative resistance through storytelling rather than real-time scriptwriting under time constraints, hence no continuous “hours of writing” deadline is imposed submissions are due by a fixed date instead.
