The Goa Mix by Paul Oakenfold

The Goa Mix by British DJ and producer Paul Oakenfold is a landmark two-hour DJ set first broadcast on BBC Radio 1’s Essential Mix on December 18, 1994, widely regarded as one of the most influential mixes in electronic music history. It innovatively fused Goa trance with cinematic elements, blending tracks from artists like Hallucinogen, Grace, and Li Kwan alongside film scores such as Vangelis’s Tears in Rain and Wojciech Kilar’s Vampire Hunters, creating a unique, immersive soundscape. Celebrated for its creativity, it was voted the Best Essential Mix of All Time by BBC listeners and received a Sony Radio Award, helping popularize Goa trance worldwide. Officially released as a double CD in 1995 and later reissued in 2011 as The Goa Mix 2011 with remastered audio, the mix cemented Oakenfold’s status as a pioneering figure in electronic music, leaving a lasting legacy on both trance and DJ culture.
