Parimarjan Negi, born on 9 February 1993, became the youngest Grandmaster in India at just 13 years and 142 days on July 1, 2006. At the time, he was the second youngest Grandmaster in the history of chess. He also held the distinction of being the world’s youngest International Master, achieving the title at 12 years, 10 months, and 19 days. Remarkably, he secured four IM norms by the age of 10 years and 10 months.
Negi made headlines by earning his first GM norm at the Hastings International Chess Congress in 2006, at the age of 12 years and 330 days. At 11 years and 5 months, he became the youngest Indian to defeat a Grandmaster, overcoming Switzerland’s Ivan Nemet at the Biel Masters in 2004.
