Goa, with an area of 3,702 sq. km, is the smallest state in India. It was a Portuguese colony until it was liberated on December 19, 1961. After liberation, Goa along with Daman and Diu became a Union Territory. On May 30, 1987, Goa was granted statehood, becoming India’s 25th state, while Daman and Diu remained Union Territories.
Goa is among the most developed states in India, with tourism as its main economic driver. Panaji serves as the capital, and Vasco is the largest town in the state. The primary language spoken in Goa is Konkani, reflecting its rich cultural heritage and history.
