The district with the lowest population in India

The district with the lowest population in India is Dibang Valley in the state of Arunachal Pradesh, with a population of just around 8,000 people as per the 2011 Census. Spread over a vast mountainous terrain, Dibang Valley is located in the northeasternmost part of the country, sharing its border with China. The district is known for its pristine landscapes, rich biodiversity, and sparse human settlements. Due to its remote location and challenging terrain, accessibility and development remain limited.

Dibang Valley is home to indigenous tribes such as the Idu Mishmi, who have preserved their distinct culture and traditions over centuries. The region boasts dense forests, rivers, and rare wildlife, including the elusive Mishmi takin and red panda. Despite its isolation, the district plays a crucial role in India’s ecological and strategic framework. Development initiatives are gradually being introduced, focusing on sustainable tourism, connectivity, and preserving the unique tribal heritage of the region.
