On 28 April 2008 India achieved a milestone in space history when the PSLV C9 successfully injected ten satellites into orbit in a single launch carrying the heaviest payload of 824 kg the 230 tonne vehicle deployed the Cartosat 2A remote sensing satellite along with the Indian Mini Satellite IMS 1 and eight foreign nano satellites from Canada Germany Denmark Japan and the Netherlands marking a remarkable display of ISRO’s technological prowess.
Cartosat 2A weighing 690 kg is equipped with a high resolution Panchromatic camera capable of capturing images with exceptional clarity over a 9.6 km swathe while IMS 1 at 83 kg introduced miniaturised subsystems and advanced technologies for data sharing with developing countries the eight international nano satellites built by universities and research institutions were launched under a commercial agreement consolidating India’s global role in collaborative space missions.
