Bertha Gyndykes Dkhar is a visually impaired educationist and innovator from Meghalaya, celebrated for her groundbreaking work in making education accessible to the visually impaired. She developed the Braille code for the Khasi language, enabling thousands of visually impaired students in the state to learn, read, and write in their mother tongue. Beyond this, she has worked tirelessly to promote inclusive education and advocate for the rights of people with disabilities. For her exceptional contributions to education and social empowerment, Bertha Gyndykes Dkhar was awarded the Padma Shri in 2010, making her one of Meghalaya’s most inspiring silent champions.
