A freedom fighter born in Mandi in 1885, Hirda Ram was a member of the Ghadar Party and was convicted in the Lahore Bomb Conspiracy of 1915. Sentenced to death (later commuted to life), he endured incarceration in the notorious Cellular Jail in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands until 1929. Despite his sacrifices, he did not receive official freedom fighter status post-Independence, and his confiscated land has not been restored to his heirs.
