Dr. Deben Dutta was a dedicated physician from Assam whose life was defined by selfless service and unwavering commitment to healthcare for the underserved. Even after retirement, he chose to work tirelessly at the Teok Tea Estate hospital, serving tea garden workers and rural communities who often lack access to quality medical care.
Known for his compassion and humility, Dr. Dutta worked long hours, often in difficult conditions, to provide treatment and hope to those in need. Tragically, in 2019, he was fatally attacked while on duty an incident that shocked the state and highlighted the challenges frontline healthcare workers face. Dr. Deben Dutta’s sacrifice remains a poignant reminder of the courage and dedication of medical professionals working silently in remote parts of Assam. His legacy inspires countless others to continue the mission of healthcare as a noble service and a human right.
