Born in 1925 in Ghaton village, Sirmaur, Kinkri Devi was illiterate but passionately advocated against limestone quarrying, which threatened the environment and livelihoods of local communities. She filed a PIL in 1987 and staged 19-day hunger strike efforts that led the court to ban hill blasting and mining. Her grassroots activism stands as a powerful example of environmental justice emerging from extreme personal hardship.
