Jammu and Kashmir’s Hall Of Fame

Mehbooba Mufti, born in 1959, is a significant political leader from Jammu and Kashmir and the first woman to serve as the Chief Minister of the region. She is the daughter of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, a respected politician who also served as Chief Minister. Mehbooba entered politics following her father's footsteps and became the president of the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). She is known for her efforts to engage with various stakeholders in the state to promote peace and development amid ongoing conflict.
Her tenure as Chief Minister, from 2016 to 2018, was marked by attempts to balance regional aspirations with security challenges. Mehbooba Mufti has been a vocal advocate for dialogue and reconciliation in Kashmir and has played a key role in state politics during some of its most turbulent times. Despite facing political challenges, she continues to be a prominent voice for Jammu and Kashmir on the national stage.
