Neikhrietuonuo Linyu is a pioneering mountaineer and medical officer from Nagaland, India, renowned for becoming the first Naga to summit Mount Everest. On May 25, 2012, she reached the peak as part of an Indian Army expedition, marking a historic achievement for the Naga community. Born on November 12, 1974, in Kohima, she was commissioned into the Indian Army in 2001 as a medical officer. Over the years, she has served in various capacities, including postings in Jammu & Kashmir, Agra, and the Special Frontier Force. Her military career also includes a stint with the United Nations Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo. In addition to her mountaineering accomplishments, she is speculated to be the first paratrooper from Nagaland, showcasing her diverse skills and dedication to service. Her achievement has inspired many in Nagaland and beyond, breaking barriers and setting new standards for women in the region.
