Prof. David R. Syiemlieh is a distinguished historian, academician, and civil servant from Meghalaya, recognized for his extensive contributions to literature, education, and cultural preservation. He has served in key academic and administrative positions, including as Chairman of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), shaping policies and promoting higher education in Northeast India. His research and writings focus on the history, culture, and social development of Meghalaya and its indigenous communities, highlighting the importance of preserving traditional knowledge alongside modern education. In recognition of his lifelong dedication to scholarship and public service, he was awarded the Padma Shri in 2025, making him one of Meghalaya’s most celebrated intellectuals.
