Rewben Mashangva

Meghalaya’s Hall Of Fame

Rewben Mashangva, often called the “King of Naga Folk Blues”, is a legendary musician from Manipur whose influence has also deeply inspired the music scene in Meghalaya and across the Northeast. Renowned for reviving and modernizing indigenous folk traditions, he blends age-old tribal instruments with contemporary blues and rock, creating a unique sound that bridges the past and present. His efforts have not only preserved fading oral traditions but also brought Northeast India’s cultural richness to global audiences. In Meghalaya, his music has particularly influenced young Khasi and Garo musicians to reconnect with their roots while experimenting with modern genres. A recipient of several awards, including the Padma Shri, Rewben Mashangva stands as a cultural icon whose artistry continues to inspire pride and creativity across the region.
