Tulsidas

Uttar Pradesh’s Hall Of Fame

Tulsidas, the 16th-century poet-saint and author of the Ramcharitmanas, was from Uttar Pradesh. He was born in Rajapur, a village in present-day Chitrakoot district of the state.

Tulsidas was a Hindu poet-saint best known for writing the Ramcharitmanas—a retelling of the Ramayana in the Awadhi language. This epic made the story of Lord Rama accessible to the common people and is considered one of the greatest works of devotional literature. He also authored the Hanuman Chalisa, which remains a popular prayer in Hindu households across India.
