Venu Gopal, a former forest guard from Nandyal, has become a grassroots environmental hero by leading a quiet yet powerful fight against deforestation. Without government support or media coverage, he initiated a community-based afforestation movement that transformed over 300 acres of barren land into thriving green cover. By involving local villagers especially youth, he promoted the planting of native trees that support biodiversity and tribal livelihoods. In addition to reforestation, Venu Gopal formed a “People’s Forest Watch Group” to patrol forest areas, prevent illegal logging, and raise ecological awareness. His commitment to conservation, fire prevention, and community stewardship has created a model for sustainable forest protection. Though his work often goes unrecognized, Venu Gopal’s mission ensures that Andhra Pradesh’s forests remain vibrant for generations to come.
