Zubeen Garg is a highly popular and influential Indian singer, music composer, actor, and filmmaker from Assam. Born on November 18, 1972, in Jorhat, Assam, he is a household name in the state and a prominent figure in the Indian music industry. Named after the great composer Zubin Mehta, Zubeen began his musical journey at a young age and was heavily influenced by his mother and sister, both of whom were classical singers. He rose to national fame with the Bollywood song “Ya Ali” from the film Gangster (2006), which became a massive hit across India. However, Zubeen had already achieved superstar status in Assam much earlier, with his immensely popular Assamese songs and albums like Anamika, Pakhi, and Mayabini. Beyond music, Zubeen is also known for his work in Assamese cinema, both as an actor and director, and for his outspoken stance on social and political issues in Assam. He actively supports causes related to youth, language, and regional identity.
