The world’s largest family resides in a 100 room four story mansion in Baktawang Mizoram under the leadership of Ziona Chana who at 67 is married to 39 women and is the father of 94 children with 14 daughters in law and 33 grandchildren Chana who entered matrimony at the age of 17 has wives ranging from 70 to 31 years of age and once married ten women in a single year reflecting the extraordinary scale of his household life which requires massive quantities of food including 30 chickens a giant pig 55 pounds of rice and 88 pounds of potatoes for each meal prepared for the family.
The family maintains self sufficiency by cultivating its own crops and rearing livestock while being guided by Ziona who heads the Chana sect a Christian religious community founded in June 1942 that permits polygamy and counts around 400 families among its members the sect upholds the belief that it will one day rule the world with Christ and Ziona himself regards his life as a divine blessing considering it a privilege to be the husband of 39 women and the leader of the world’s largest family.
