Rajkumar Jhalajit Singh (14 September 1924 - 8 January 2021) was a distinguished writer, historian, academic, and Gandhian from Imphal, Manipur. He held postgraduate and law degrees, practiced law briefly, then served in academia: principal and lecturer at law college, visiting professor, Controller of Examinations at Manipur University. Singh played key roles in literary and cultural institutions, president of Manipuri Sahitya Parishad (1987-89), founder president of the Manipur Sanskrit Parishad, active in research societies, and involved with inclusion of Manipuri language in the Eighth Schedule. He authored several books including A History of Manipuri Literature, Manipur from 1508, A Short History of Manipur, and was awarded the Padma Shri in 1999.
