Saikhom Mirabai Chanu is one of India’s most celebrated weightlifters and a proud daughter of Manipur. Born on August 8, 1994, in Nongpok Kakching, a small village in Manipur, she discovered her passion for weightlifting at a young age. Despite coming from humble beginnings, Mirabai’s dedication and talent quickly propelled her onto the national and then international stage. She has won multiple medals at prestigious events, including gold at the Commonwealth Games (2018) and World Weightlifting Championships (2017). Her remarkable journey reached new heights when she won the silver medal in the women’s 49 kg category at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, making her one of India’s top Olympic medalists in weightlifting.
