YOUTH SPOTLIGHT

Sunita Singh Choken is a celebrated mountaineer and social activist from Rewari, Haryana, known for her extraordinary feats in adventure sports and her passionate advocacy for women’s empowerment and environmental causes. She gained national attention when she became the youngest woman from Haryana to summit Mount Everest in 2011. Beyond mountaineering, Sunita has undertaken long-distance cycling journeys across India, including a 4,200 km ride from Kanyakumari to Leh and a 5,000 km trek from Somnath to Nepal, using these campaigns to promote the message of “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” (Save and Educate the Girl Child) and raise awareness about environmental protection.

Her commitment to social causes earned her the prestigious Nari Shakti Puraskar in 2016, one of India’s highest civilian honors for women. Besides her athletic and activist roles, Sunita also serves as a Deputy Superintendent of Police in Haryana, breaking stereotypes and inspiring countless young women to pursue their dreams courageously. Through her blend of adventure and advocacy, she continues to be a powerful voice for change in Haryana and beyond.
